Why I Don't Have a Pitch Deck: The Surprising Reason

Exploring the Anti-Pitch

Have you ever taken a digital Ambien? Consulting firms are famous for their PowerPoint decks; also known as the “hug of death". You know what I’m talking about, I know it’s only a 30 minute call but all 100 slides are important. This assault of information with “pick me” energy is a turn off to any client.

The software industry has their own pitch method called “Product-as-the-Hero” which promises to solve every problem you have with just a SaaS subscription.

As the founder and Chief Innovation Officer for XERAPHINA I purposefully do not have a pitch deck and let me tell you why.

Innovation is about hunting pain. Every intro call with a new client starts with exploring these two questions:

  1. Tell me about the biggest, most gnarly problem that keeps you up at night.

  2. Tell me about your vision for the organization, even if it’s controversial.

As an innovator I’m more interested in your problem than selling you a solution. It’s all about how do I make you look good. Within 30 minutes I can tell if it’s a good fit, how we scale your outcomes, and if not, who I can refer you to. I find this more conversational style to create better client journeys because innovation is never about the tech, it’s about the outcomes and impacts we accelerate.

And if you’ve come across this post independently of networking with me and want to talk about your problem/vision for your organization, you can book with me via my Calendly directly below.
